
This weekend I attended an amazing and awesome (do you get that I liked it) event - ChangeUp: LA.
From the ChangeUp Site : "ChangeUp: LA is an intense, community event with the goal of making great strides toward improving the effectiveness of five non-profit organizations.
In one weekend, a few dozen design, marketing, and web professionals will meet with representatives from the five organizations. The organizations will present their design challenges (a new brochure, updated branding, a website refresh, etc.) and the participants will form groups and work to complete the projects... all by the end of the weekend!"
Well, that is EXACTLY what happened!
It was wonderful to be a part of such a dynamic, diverse and talented group of creative professionals and the smaller group that I played with in particular, a veritable dream team of creative expertise and ability, was truly a pleasure to work with on every level.
So, what did we do? We worked with a tremendous non-profit called CADRE.
From the Cadre Site : "CADRE is a community-based, membership parent organization in South Los Angeles founded in 2001. CADRE is led by African American and Latino parents and caregivers whose children attend local schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). We work for systemic change by supporting grassroots South LA parents as the leaders in stopping the pushout crisis in schools serving low-income neighborhoods of color."
They came to change up seeking a new image and brand that could take their mission and make is something that can be instantly and easily communicated while at the same time providing a look and feel that will be effective as a rallying cry for the parents that work with them. The representatives from Cadre were passionate, extremely engaged and tremendous to work with (May I suggest adding to your available services : "How to be the perfect client".)

Our team was blessed with a client that was completely open to rebuilding this brand from the ground up and we took full advantage of that opportunity. For our deliverables we created two distinct approaches to the brand in the form of two brand style guides.
This gives Cadre the ability to take these two approaches back to their community to pick the one that resonates the most with their membership. Additionally they now have the tools to work with other designers and ensure a high end look and feel consistent with whichever new brand direction they move forward with.
